Hi there! my name is MJ and this is my website. I'm a 20 year old artist and crafter who loves to experiment with new ideas and techniques.

I first got into drawing when I was around 13-years-old. I started off with quite dark artwork. At the point, I was really struggling with my depression and my coping mechanism was creating dark and triggering artwork/stories. As I grew older, my art style started to become more lighter and happier. My depression is still a huge struggle but now I think differently. My art become too much for me and I wanted to create more calming pieces which is why I began to experiment with themes and colours.

Aged 16, my dad asked me to create a drawing for him of the Welsh Dragon. It was the summer of 2021, I'd just left high school and was hoping to make a bit of money. He'd had this idea that for the summer, I could sell Welsh drawings I'd done in the form of magnets and keyrings. Great, I thought! I was starting college in September so it'd keep me busy.

3 months, an operation and many mental health breakdowns later, I dropped out of college. It was not good for my health at all! I would be phoning for my mum to come get me, recovering from my operation took an extra 4 weeks than it should have, so really in total I was barely there! However, I do know that it would have destroyed me if I'd of tried to continue.

I only applied because I felt pressured to by a teacher at my alternative school (a school for autistic and neurodivergent people). I told her I knew college would destroy all of the confidence I'd been able to build up, but she kept going on about how I should at least try and after she called me a 'f***ing wuss' due to a panic attack, I caved and applied for college. Was I right about it destroying me? Yes, yes I was.

My confidence I'd built up from being in the alternative education had completely gone and my mental health was awful! Even now, I know education isn't for me. I applied again in 2023 but immediately backed out.

Instead of looking into education, I began to work on my confidence and mental health again. Selling in my dad's shop was going fantastically and I was making so many sales! This definitely made me feel better in myself. It also made me realise that you don't need formal education. You can learn from day to day situations, from friends and family, the internet and so much more!

This year, I will be celebrating selling my artwork in my dad's shop for 4 years! What started as a few magnets and keyrings has become so much more; clothing, tote bags, upcycled jewellery, pens and badges! There are so many more things that I do now, including commissions and fairs!

If you want to learn more about myself, my work and how you can buy my art/commission me I suggest checking out my socials! You can find them on this link below:
